Safeguarding at The Whole Hub
Introduction
This Safeguarding Policy outlines our approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
Definitions
- Child: Any person under the age of 18.
- Young Person: Any person aged between 16 and 18.
- Vulnerable Adult: Any person aged 18 or over who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age, or illness.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:
- Create awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities among staff and volunteers.
- Provide clear procedures for reporting concerns related to the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for all individuals involved in our educational consultancy programs.
Principles
- Best Interests: The best interests of the child, young person, or vulnerable adult will always be our primary consideration.
- Empowerment: We will empower individuals by providing them with the information and support they need to make informed decisions and stay safe.
- Prevention: We will take steps to prevent harm by promoting a safe and inclusive environment, implementing robust recruitment procedures, and providing appropriate training.
- Equality: We will treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or other characteristics.
Responsibilities
- Board of Directors: The Board holds ultimate responsibility for safeguarding and will ensure that adequate resources are allocated for its implementation.
- Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): A designated individual will be appointed as the DSO responsible for overseeing the implementation of the safeguarding policy, providing advice, and coordinating training.
- Staff and Volunteers: All staff and volunteers have a responsibility to report concerns and maintain a safe environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
Procedures
- Recruitment and Training: Thorough background checks will be conducted for all staff and volunteers working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults. Regular training will be provided to ensure awareness of safeguarding issues.
- Reporting Concerns: Any concerns about the welfare of an individual must be reported to the DSO immediately. The DSO will follow the appropriate procedures for reporting and recording concerns.
- Confidentiality: Information will be handled confidentially and shared only with those who need to know. However, the welfare of the individual will always take precedence over confidentiality.
Review and Monitoring
This Safeguarding Policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary. Regular monitoring and evaluation will ensure that the policy remains effective and in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
